Sight seeing

Al-Hawari

Hola! Lama dah tak kemaskinikan blog. Anak-anak dah mula sekolah semula selepas dua minggu bercuti, penatlah sikit. Minggu ini saya mula 'bekerja' semula menjaga Al-Hawari yang comel tu. Biasalah, setelah lebih sebulan duduk di rumah dengan emaknya bila tinggal rumah 'nanny' menangis jerlah dia. Tapi takpa, biasanya tak lama dah biasa nanti oklah dia.

Minggu lalu Syarafi terpilih untuk mendapat tiket menyaksikan Sarkas. Dia diberi lima tiket percuma.

Continuation....

The second week of school holiday, my children joined two other activities organised by the Bentley Library. On Tuesday (15 July), Iffah and Hasif joined the art and craft activity called the crafting crazy critters. They were taught to make chicken with clucking sound using paper cup, string and sponge. Then, they made snake using neck tie before learning to create spider using stainless steel scourers. After finishing the art and craft, they were given some bookmarks to be coloured. While Iffah and Hasif enjoyed their new adventure, the three brothers, Afiq, Syarafi and Zarif looked for books to borrow before playing computer game. The event of the day was pretty much enjoyable with the presence of other Malaysians' children.

On Thursday (17 July), once again, we did not cease the opportunity to gain more new knowledge at Bentley Library. This time, Syarafi, Zarif and 'Iffah participated in the "Create a beadie critter" activity. What was that? Very interesting....the children were taught to make lizard, fish, lady bird, bookmark and other things using beads. The written instruction together with picture were given to the children to guide them to do their critters. The children enjoyed themselves very much. And, I also found it was very amusing, as my friend, Aziah said that we can do business by making beads critters!

School holiday activities

During the winter school holiday, my children spent most of their time at home due to cold weather and showers. They also spent some time at Bentley Library participating in several activities organised by the library and borrowing some books and cds. On 10th July, Zarif, 'Iffah and Hasif joined one of the activities, learning about bubbles which was conducted by Scitech. They were taught about the connection between air and bubble, why the shape of the bubble is sphere and how to make different sizes of bubbles. The interesting part was that they were shown how human was put into bubble. At the end of the session, of course, they were given the chance to play with bubbles. Last but not least, let's share the ingredients to make bubble mixture - easy and cheap.

Bubble Making Mixture

What you will need:

- 3 teaspoons of glycerine

- 1/4 cup of dishwashing liquid

- 1/2 cup of water

- A jar

- Spare sheets of newspaper to protect from spills

What to do:

Lay down some newspaper before beginning!

1. Mix 3 teaspoons of glycerine with 1/4 cup of dishwashing liquid and 1/2 cup of water in a screw top jar.

2. Using straws and paper clips construct a square, rectangle or any other shapes you can think of and dip into the bubble solution and blow!

To Share is To Care

Congratulation BKK! The creation of the Laman BKK blog is one step ahead, hopefully it will continously develop. BKK stands for Badan Kebajikan Keluarga Hj. Kamarudin dan Hjh. Kalsom and we constantly hold family meetings, gatherings, family days and we even have our Annual General Meeting. BKK is a platform for the family to get together and the medium to share the family ups and downs, sad and happiness.

Today, Friday, July 4th is the last day of school for Term 2. Hasif's class held the Lunch Picnic and parents were encouraged to bring some foods. I cooked sausage rolls because Hasif like it and I don't want him to eat some other things which are not halal. Luckily, the Indonesian Muslims also brought good meals for lunch such as mini pizza and quicche (like a small pie).

The Academic Performance Reports are distributed to parents. Alhamdulillah, all my children have shown some improvements at schools, even though not very outstanding but good enough for students with English as a second language.

It seems that the two weeks school holiday will not be as much fun for the children. The television programme here is not like in Malaysia with many cartoons and movies for children during the holiday. The programmes are more on sports and documentaries. Furthermore my husband will be busy with his practicum. Fortunately the Bentley Library is organising several activities for children during school holidays, I have registered their names to take part in these activities. Hopefully they will enjoy and learn something new.

Below is the pictures of two events in conjunction with the end of term 2 i.e. Iffah's Garden Party and Hasif's Lunch Picnic. Baru belajar guna movie maker.

Frust but satisfied

Hi! Remember? In the last post I mentioned about the match of winter carnival....Unfortunately Bentley Primary School lost the game but they won the netball. Syarafi who played hockey won only one match out of five. Zarif and his socccer team won 2 matches, draw two matches and lost one match. They look dissappointed but they were having fun out there. The way they told the story of their game seemed that they enjoyed it and full of satisfaction....yeahhh..this was the first time they played for their school.

This week is the last school week for this term. Next week the children will start their two weeks winter holiday. So, many events are planned this week by the schools. This afternoon, Iffah's class organised the Garden Party. The children baked the cakes together and the pre-primary students who were invited to the party also contributed the cookies. There were children dancing, poem performance, group activities and foods of course. One good thing about these people, they concern about the Muslim halal food. I will post the pictures of this event in the next post together with Hasif's class Lunch Picnic which will be held on this Friday.

After attending Iffah's Garden Party I went to Kent Street Senior High School to get the Performance report of Afiq (in Malaysia we call it Report Day). They also arranged the individual interview between teachers and parents. Alhamdulillah, eventhough Afiq has been here for only four months but he has shown encouraging improvement. The teachers also commended on his well behaviour and polite attitude. He got first in French class, excellente! He needs to improve though to put away his shyness and ask questions when he does not understand! That the advise from his math's teacher.

Dah mengantuklah pulak, yang lain semua dah tidur, musim sejuk ni malamnya panjang, Isya' pun awal pukul 6.50 dah masuk waktu, jadi mengantuknya pun cepat, tidur dulu ya nanti sambung lagi.
